About mantownhuman
Mantownhuman was founded to initiate a debate over the future of architecture. We believe that only by critically engaging with ideas which are widely accepted and seldom debated can we redevelop a notion of an architectural vision as something worth fighting for.
We recognise that the exhaustion of existing models leaves us with no easy programme to follow, no principles to recover, nor eternal truths or ideals to fall back on. But this is good; the old models were not up to the task. Today, we need nothing less than to develop our own set of rules to guide our actions. Conflict and mistakes will undoubtedly accompany gains and successes, but how else can we judge if ideas and innovations are important, or a diversion from real progress.
To meet these challenges mantownhuman aim to:
- Build an alliance of designers willing to re-engage with the progressive project of creating an architecture – a design ambition – for our time through the project of issuing a challenge the deadening contemporary consensus outlined in the Manifesto: Towards a New Humanism in Architecture.
- Establish new forums for critical exchange within the profession creating an autonomous environment in which to develop inquiry and engage with the future direction of architecture.
