BREXIT has created profound uncertainty. But do we see it as a moment of crisis or of opportunity? We choose the latter. As a result, we are positive about democracy and the freedom that it reflects, and see a world of possibilities if the UK takes steps to grow and develop in an open relationship with the economies and people of European countries and the rest of the world. Whether this is the direction the country will take is an open question, so we believe we should work out our ambitions, our perspectives and to take the argument forward in the public arena.

  • This is NOT a manifesto, but a challenge. It is an open call to engage in forming a new way of understanding what we do, and why we do it.
  • It is NOT a protection plan for professionals, but a forum for open, free-thinking argument and debate.

It is an outward-looking agenda for change that will hopefully spark a discussion about what kind of future we want to see. Being free to create; winning support of the public; re-uniting people both domestically and internationally; these are all tasks posed by the moment. The space exists  for us to shape the answers to those challenges. We want to create, encourage and intervene in an unfolding public dialogue.

In this spirit, we have drafted a number of provocations – pledges that express our general outlook. We invite you to take these into your workplaces, your homes, your networks and comunities. Discuss them, challenge them (and yourselves), agree or disagree, propose additional interventions and let’s begin a new narrative to shape the future of the built environment and more.

Below we list 10 objectives that could be the basis of a fightback against the contemporary malaise in design and architectural discourse as well as the social framework. We hope that anyone who can support 5 out of 10 of the following critical statements will get in touch and work (together) to formulate a New Narrative for our exciting times.

Fill out my online form.

Please tick the boxes and let’s start to build solidarity around these New Narratives.
WE WANT PEOPLE TO TAKE THESE PLEDGES, ADAPT THEM, ADD TO THEM AND PROMOTE THEM TO YOUR OWN DESIGN COMMUNITY
If you don’t want to fill out the form, please send support (or constructive criticism) to: futurecitiesprojectATgmail.com
